Matthew Celestial is a wellness entrepreneur, branding consultant and creative strategist redefining skincare as a daily ritual of recovery and return. He is the Founder of Matte Equation, a functional skincare brand rooted in the science of stress relief, fitness recovery and better sleep, blending neurocosmetic innovation with sensory-first experiences.
Before launching Matte Equation, Matthew began his career in global entertainment publicity, leading campaigns for some of the world’s most iconic studios including Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, and Paramount Pictures. From red carpets to international premieres, his work told unforgettable stories on the world stage, until years of high-performance hustle led him to a breaking point. Burnout became a catalyst for transformation, and from that rupture, Matte Equation was born: not as a brand, but as a blueprint for healing.
In addition to his work in entertainment, Matthew has collaborated with leaders across fashion, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, health and wellness and public health sectors. His communications work has supported purpose-driven organizations such as the Arthritis Society of Canada, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Ovarian Cancer Society, CAMH, SickKids Foundation and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, with a focus on public policy, research advocacy and storytelling that drives impact. These partnerships have deepened his commitment to building brands that not only serve but truly support the people they reach.
A multidisciplinary thinker, Matthew holds a double major in Media Studies and Environmental Policy with a minor in Creative Writing from the University of Toronto, where he cultivated a passion for narrative, systems thinking and the connection between body and environment. During his time at the University of Toronto, he sat on the student union board, championing initiatives around student health and wellness, while also working within the university’s Health & Wellness Department to support campus-wide care. He is currently pursuing a second degree in Neuroscience, with a deepening interest in brain health, neurological well-being and the role of sensory rituals in supporting mental clarity and emotional resilience, an academic pursuit that fuels Matte Equation’s commitment to functional, evidence-backed wellness.
Matthew’s early curiosity in science earned him the Science Award from the University of Toronto in high school, recognizing his research on pheromones in perfumery and cosmetics, a project that first sparked his fascination with the emotional and physiological power of skincare. Today, that early wonder lives on in the brand's product development philosophy.
Currently finishing his Yoga Teacher Training, Matthew is deepening his understanding of the body's intelligence, exploring the space where stillness, breath and skincare intersect. As someone navigating diabetes, burnout and the pressure of modern life, his wellness journey is lived, not theorized. Every Matte Equation product is designed to meet people where they are: tired, overwhelmed, in need of something that feels real.

THE RITUAL THAT STARTED IT ALL
What began as Matthew’s personal search for balance evolved into Matte Equation—a brand built for people navigating real stress, long days and the constant pressure to keep going.
If there was one product that started it all, it was the Quantum Mud Mask.
Developed during a time of chronic burnout, when life felt unsustainably busy, it became a small but essential pause in his day. Applying the mask became more than another skincare step. It was a structured moment to slow down, reflect and reset. It was the first product he created that genuinely helped him feel better, physically and mentally. That simple, science-backed ritual sparked the idea for Matte Equation: skincare designed to support the nervous system.
